Lovely Pigeon

I haven’t done many posts about English jewellery designers lately so I thought it is about time. Although this designer is not from England, she is from Scotland but her jewellery is available in the UK so that kinda counts.

I first saw her jewellery at the Tate Modern Art Gallery, only to realise that jewellery is one of the many things Kirsty does. She is a “”print maker, jeweller, illustrator and occasional shopkeeper” and produces printed hardware, paper products and jewellery. I have to show you her jewellery though as it is quite different, but in a good way.

Spliced Yellow Necklace 16p

This is called the Spliced Yellow Necklace. A geometric neckpiece with spliced panels of yellow, sky blue and grey. It’s illustrated, printed, heat shrunk, lacquered and finished with a gold or silver plated 44cm chain and costs £16.

This triangle necklace is made the same way as the above and costs £14.

I love these hexagon mismatched earrings. Only £10 a pair and you can make all sorts of different pairs.

I suppose if that's a little too crazy then you can always get a matching colour pair. £10.

Angular brooch for only £4. How nice would this look on a blazer with jeans?

Off to London I goooo!

So most of you who know me, know that I am leaving the sunny shores of Cape Town, South Africa (a place that I have called home for 25 years) and am on my way to London. In a week. *Cue hysterical screams of excitement and pure terror*

As of today I am unemployed, homeless and, with nothing more than a few pounds (and I mean few. This exchange rate is horrible) and a one way ticket to the UK, I am embarking on my next big adventure.

Might need to buy one of these blingola’s to remind me where I am. Then again, this is a little hideous. So maybe not. [source]

Good news is that I am still going to continue blogging and am going to try and keep featuring Cape Town and South African jewellery designers because I just love their style. BUT the exciting aspect is that I can also blog about jewellery from one of the most fashion forward cities in the world!

This is not as kitch as the above ring. In fact, I could def pull this off! [source]

To celebrate I thought I would show you a few union jack pieces that are not too bad. Well kinda.

Everyone knows that people drink lots of tea in London. I’m more of a coffee girl but bring on the scones! [source]

Mad Men Jewellery

And so our four day weeks come to end.. I hope you all had a wonderful Easter break and are well rested to take on the rest of the year! Yeah, me neither.

I have recently started watching Mad Men.. I know I am very behind the times and that it’s been out for a while, but things my side have been manic and I am finally finding some time for myself. I love this show, probably because I work in an agency and often dream of boozy lunches, but mainly because the styling is so darn good. And they say things like “swell”.

There are some gorgeous pieces on that set and I love the 1960’s vibe. The big clip on pearl earrings, the statement necklaces, the brooches..

I think the most iconic piece is Joan Holloway’s gold chain pen. She wears it all the time (well in the first season anyway) and carries it off to well! [source]

How gorgeous is this necklace and earring combo on ol' Mrs Betty Draper?

How much do you love this ‘earring and brooch’ set? Very matchy matchy as was wont in the 1960’s. [source]

I’m not quite sure who the woman on the left is (as I said I have only starting watching very recently) and I don’t want to Google in case I ruin it for myself! But you can enjoy her necklace in the meantime. And of course, the gorgeous January Jones on the right. [source]

The earrings. The brooch. I want!

As you can see by all my images of Joan, she really ups the stakes in the jewellery department. How beautiful is this choker? [source]

As you can see, poor old Peggy doesn’t really make much of an appearance. Mainly because she doesn’t wear anything other than the odd string of pearls here and there (her blouses tend to go right up to her neck) and also because I can’t stand the little fringe thing she has got going on there. It frustrates me.

Oh fiiine.. Here is Peggy. Resplendent in yellow. with that fringe. Although, the necklace is not half bad. [source]

Bunny Brooches

There is nothing better when you have had a really shit day than coming home to a friend who has bought you dinner and you can just sit on the couch to bitch and moan. Oh wait, there is one thing better – when she brings gifts that she knows will cheer you up. I am very lucky have one such friend. And the gift in question?

a cute wooden bunny brooch!

She bought it at the Stellenbosch market. Now this is the first brooch that I own (I know, I should really own more) so it’s fun adding a bit extra to an otherwise boring outfit.

me and Thumper..

Thumper and I ready to take on the world..

I know Owls had a thing a while ago so hopefully the next animal to have their 15 minutes will be the rabbit. What do you think? Love it? Hate it?

Even Lady Gaga was spotted sporting a bunny brooch. Although if I’m very honest, I don’t like it too much. But then again, this is Lady Gags we talking about.
