Veuve Clicquot Masters Polo

I learnt two things on Saturday at the beautiful polo fields of Val de Vie.. 1. I need to take more photos of people and their beautiful jewellery at an event (I get sooo intimidated to walk up to people and ask for a shot of their earrings!) and 2. that a girl can never have enough Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream and Veuve Clicquot Champagne.

Yes, it was a tough day..

I was very excited for the event (so much so that I had planned by outfit a few days in advance. Ok fine, when i say days I mean weeks.) I was lucky enough to have won a blowdry and mani from Marios Hair Company so looked and felt very glam! I was wearing a royal blue dress so paired it with my Metallic Mermaid gold statement butterfly necklace..

Necklace is from Metallic Mermaid, Ring and Earrings are stolen from my sister so not quite sure where they are from and the bracelet is Louis Vuitton.

I know I look slightly naked in this pic but my dress was a one shoulder.. just FYI.

There was loads of beautiful jewellery on display, much of which were statement necklaces and big earrings. Karisa, from My love Affair with Cape Town and Ritza from Luxo Blog were both wearing gorgeous earrings.

Karisa's boyfriend bought these for her. This guy has style!

Isn't she beautiful? Turns out Mario did her hair too - snap! (however, she has way more hair than I do..)

Necklaces also seemed to steal the show, as can be seen below.

The gorgeous Leigh from Lipgloss is My Life also wore gold jewellery and had the most beautiful ring on.. Because it was so hot, the servers were walking around with Hagen Daaz ice cream in cute paper cones that matched Leigh’s bright pink nails..

How much do you love the watch too?

But sometimes, simple is the way to go. Often outfits can be made by jewellery and then there are other times when all the jewellery needs to do is enhance the dress. Chelle, the brains behind DearDeer, who was wearing an amazing leopard print frock, got this just right!

Love that Cehelle is rocking the gold ring finger nail polish!

I managed to watch a bit of the game, went onto the field for the traditional ‘stomping’ of the field (because the field gets pretty churned with the horses hooves, the crowd is encouraged to go and ‘stomp’ the earth back into place) and stroked a horse who had shinier hair than I could ever hope for! All in all – a good day at the polo!

Flotique Jewellery

Hands up if you know and love Florence and the Machines? Hands up if you love her style? Now that both hands are up you are allowed a sneaky little fist pump as I have good news – she has come out with her own range of jewellery! (If no hands were raised in this exercise go onto Youtube and search “Dog days are over”. If you STILL are clueless, I give up.)

How beautiful is she? I specifically chose this image jsut to prove how good her choice in jewellery is.. This isn't er own range though (source)

Turns out she has her own webstore where the bands sells albums and band merchandise. She was inspired by the album Ceremonials and decided to create a seven piece collection called Flotique (I know, the name needs a little work). The designs are silver and gold plated and the designs are inspired by the typography on the albums front cover.

She designed three beautiful necklaces;

She also designed a bracelet that I would give anything to get my hands on this baby

And finally, the best for last, the rings (of course, not because I’m ring verskrik or anything) because it also has a really nice story behind it. The ring was designed around her birdcage tattoo on her finger.

The range is selling for between 20-50 pounds (R275 – R690. It sucks having to convert). The ring is the cheapest while that bracelet that I covet is the most expensive (of course).

While you were reading this post you had “Dog days are over” in your head the whole time didn’t you? Well, even if you didn’t, you do now. It’s a pleasure 😉

Metallic Mermaid

More often than not, jewellery invokes memories and reminds the wearer about certain times in their lives. Whether it’s an engagement/wedding ring reminding some of the happy times, or a necklace worn in remembrance, many simple trinkets have stories behind it.

Now my memories are not really about a piece of jewellery as such, but more about a shop. Metallic Mermaid in Plettenberg Bay is that shop. Just thinking about it now takes me back to when I was much younger, saving up all my hard earned pocket money so that when Decemeber holidays rolled around I could go and buy beautiful treasures.

Metallic Mermaid - a pandora's box for a jewellery addict like moi..

This shop went a long way to fueling my passion for jewellery as when you walk in there is just jewellery EVERYWHERE! Reminds me a little of a scratch patch (remember those?!) as you had to look between all sorts of necklaces and chains and just.. things.. in order to find the perfect purchase.

I was in Plett again these holidays and found some wonderful pieces that need to be shared:

I thought these were very cute, but a little too costume jewellery-ish for to to actually buy it. R79.

I found that when I went this year however that their was much more ‘cheapie’ things and very clunky jewellery that didn’t appeal to me at all but after spending some time searching through everything, there are some gorgeous bargains to be had. If you want to find out more, hop over here.
