My best from the Resort 2014 collections

The fashion world has been in a frenzy of late as all the big name designers have come out with their Resort 2014 collections. Resort collections are for those who are taking their holidays in sunnier climates (here’s looking at you in a disapproving manner, London). So it’s not a Spring/Summer or Fall/Winter collection but rather an in betweener if that makes sense? Silhouettes from previous seasons are often used with sneak peeks of what is to come in the next seasons collection.

Anywhoodle, now that you feeling super clever with this knowledge, let me show you my favourite jewellery looks from the collections.

balenciaga-resort2014-runway-25_232940480794

This is from Balenciaga. The whole ‘wearing the same cuffs on both arms’ is a thing. Trust me on this. But make sure they are big and bold enough so as to make a statement.

chanel-resort2014-runway-Louis Kwok

Of course this is Chanel. And of course I would love it as I am a BIG fan of pearls draped all over one.

maxmara-resort2014-runway-02_125408171660

MaxMara showing that chunky bangles are back, only if worn identically on each arm.

michael-kors-resort2014-runway-04_17034712071

Michael Kors did something funny with his jewellery and I know the title of the blog said ‘my best’ but this isn’t my best. It’s just weird. If you look closely it’s a lock on a perspex cuff. I suppose ‘dare to be different’ and all that..

oscar-de-la-renta-resort2014-runway-06_175821998380

Oscar de la Renta brings out the statement necklaces to add some oomph to his collection.

proenza-schouler-resort2014-runway-14_162304347220

This chick looks like someone just cut the line for a McDonalds burger. But the pendant vibe is alive and well in the Proenza Schouler resort collection.

ralph-lauren-resort2014-runway-17_101829498625

And I love this combination of a choker and a pendant as seen on the Ralph Lauren runway.

What is your favourite? Let me know below or tweet me @LaurenMcMinn.

The Jewellery Show 2013

For those of you who follow me on Twitter and Instagram you will know that I attended The Jewellery Show at Somerset House in London this week. It was a trade show so there were many buyers milling about (I could only wish to buy some of the gorgeous items on display!) as well as people just fanatical about jewellery (like yours truly).

I was so stupidly excited of my name tag that I continued to wear long after the show. Nerd I know.

I was so stupidly excited of my name tag that I continued to wear it long after the show. So mature.

One of the big attractions was the catwalk show where models were wearing jewellery that highlighted the current trends and designers making a splash. Now you have to excuse the quality of these images. I tried to get the official images with no success and because we were told no camera’s were allowed, all I had was an iPhone. But you’ll get the idea.

Pearls:

Pearls are a must for Spring/Summer but are also making an appearance on Fall 2013 runways. Not just one string mind you, layer layer layer or get the biggest ‘pearls’ you can find to make an impact!

IMG_0341

Jewellery by The Real Pearl Co. Not only draped around the neck but cuffs, rings and earrings too. See how big the pearls in the earrings are? If you find a necklace with oversized pearls like that you’ll be bang on trend.

Jewellery from La Perle Blanche

Jewellery from La Perle Blanche, another example of many strands of pearls but worn pendant style.

Pendants:

I love pendant necklaces because it reminds me of my childhood wearing my dolphin pendant necklace! Obviously there were no dolphins to be seen on the runway but pendants are coming back in a big way. Longer length seems to be more popular but wear it according to your preference.

Homepagetopimage1

Jewellery by Lucet Mundi. This photo was taken professionally (as you can see) and the layering trend also manages to sneak in here. Different lengths make for an unusual take on the ‘statement necklace’ trend.

IMG_0353

I was so in love with this dress that I didn’t even take note of who the designer was but my guess would be Quoins. Again, the more pendants, the merrier.

Cuffs:

Girls, cuffs have not gone out of trend and look set to hang around for a while..

IMG_0344

Jewellery by Jessica Flinn. Not content with just one cuff, this model is wearing three!

Statement Pieces:

The bigger the better. As seen above and below, if it’s the same design and colours, go overboard! If it’s different designers, I might recommend just going with one big piece so that it doesn’t look like you’re trying too hard.

IMG_0340

Making a statement is not complete without a cuff. Just FYI. Also, I have no idea who the designer is for this piece, apologies!

Jewellery by Lucy Q Designs. Gorgeous silver statement necklace.

So there you have it! I was able to interview the most awesome designers and saw some gorgeous designs so be sure to keep an eye on my blog as I will be putting them up over the course of the next few weeks. Have a great weekend everyone!

Gold is a girl’s new best friend according to Elie Saab

Gold is here to stay. And not in a subtle way either. I must be honest I am not a big fan of wearing too much gold as we had a neighbour when I was small who used to drip with gold jewellery and I always thought it was slightly kitch. But the more jewellery I am loving and wanting to buy, gold is definitely creeping in there..

Elie Saab’s pre-fall collection included major gold jewellery so your cuffs and statement necklaces are still going to be around for a while!

This may be a little hectic to wear for a drink at the pub..

I quite love this. I don’t think I will like the price tag however.

Love this cuff that the model is wearing! Now this is something I would lvoe to have around my wrist!

Lovely Pigeon

I haven’t done many posts about English jewellery designers lately so I thought it is about time. Although this designer is not from England, she is from Scotland but her jewellery is available in the UK so that kinda counts.

I first saw her jewellery at the Tate Modern Art Gallery, only to realise that jewellery is one of the many things Kirsty does. She is a “”print maker, jeweller, illustrator and occasional shopkeeper” and produces printed hardware, paper products and jewellery. I have to show you her jewellery though as it is quite different, but in a good way.

Spliced Yellow Necklace 16p

This is called the Spliced Yellow Necklace. A geometric neckpiece with spliced panels of yellow, sky blue and grey. It’s illustrated, printed, heat shrunk, lacquered and finished with a gold or silver plated 44cm chain and costs £16.

This triangle necklace is made the same way as the above and costs £14.

I love these hexagon mismatched earrings. Only £10 a pair and you can make all sorts of different pairs.

I suppose if that's a little too crazy then you can always get a matching colour pair. £10.

Cannes Opening Ceremony Jewellery 2013

Hollywood has moved to Cannes. As have most of the diamonds and jewellery of the world right now. I’m not really one for all this celeb spotting and I don’t want to be a regurgitated version of the tabloid blogs, but this is what’s happening right now and when stylists are making statements and contributing to trends, best we watch.

These gems were all spotted at the Premier of the Great Gatsby and the Cannes film festival opening ceremony. Where it was pouring with rain. And yet these girls managed to look amazing.

Opening+Ceremony+Great+Gatsby+Premiere+66th+dF1GY0Ec6z8x

Cara Delevingne made a dramatic entrance in black lace by Burberry. She was dripping in Chopard diamonds. Normally I am not a fan of wearing a necklace, ring and earrings but with that fierce face, she could pull anything off.

article-2325054-19CBD701000005DC-442_964x1300

How much do you love the hairdo? Nicole Kidman wore simple diamond studs and let her outfit and hairstyle do most of the talking.

Isla-Fisher-In-Oscar-de-la-Renta-‘The-Great-Gatsby’-Premiere-Cannes-Film-Festival-Opening-Ceremony

Isla Fisher wears a Bulgari necklace with a gorgeous red dress. Love the statement necklace and that she decided for a fun piece and not a typical diamond necklace.

Opening Ceremony And 'The Great Gatsby' Premiere - The 66th Annual Cannes Film Festival

Cindy Crawford does not look a day over 30. Seriously, I want this lady’s genes. And earrings. They are from Chopard Fine Jewellery and probably cost as much as a house. Just saying.

Opening Ceremony And 'The Great Gatsby' Premiere - The 66th Annual Cannes Film Festival

And Solange came out er, swinging in the jewellery stakes. Her earrings are also from Chopard and worked so well with her dress. Always one to mix it up, props to her for making a classy statement with her jewellery.

Lana+Del+Rey+Shoulder+Length+Hairstyles+Medium+BNi6ZHoNAHWx

Lana Del Rey wore stunning Chopard earrings which were almost hidden in her hair. Pity that.

As you can see, Chopard ruled the jewellery roost. Well played ladies, well played.

Collar Chains

I promised I would blog about this and so here we go. As it’s ‘supposedly’ getting colder in Cape Town (I say supposedly as I keep seeing gorgeous pictures on my Twitter and Instagram feed of the sunsets and hearing about lovely winter’s days) and London is still chilly and rainy (surprise surprise), these little accessories are going to come in quite handy over the next few months when everyone is wearing button up shirts.

I first saw collar chains here and fell in love. I have been on the lookout ever since but it seems to be a very quiet trend, so basically not many people are wearing them. Which is wonderful as I don’t feel like wearing something that every girl has on.

azteccollartips1

How lovely? Just adds a touch of flair to a collared shirt. (source)

Yes, you can wear a statement necklace with your collared shirt. But so are all the girls around you. Just saying.

But collar chains don’t have to be demure and simple. If you are into making a statement, then go for something like this;

tumblr_mdz0nwqKOo1qaemtso1_500

This is my favourite one.

So there you have it! I haven’t been able to spot any available in South Africa but I know that they are available at Top Shop here in the UK so pop over and have a look. Let me know if you find any and if you will be wearing this accessory for winter?

Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is on Sunday and when you are halfway around the world it’s a little tough to figure out a Mother’s Day pressie for mumsy dearest but if you are in the same city as your mom, best you get on that! Mom’s always love a card and flowers (my staple Mother’s Day present) but it might be time to jazz things up. All ladies love gorgeous jewellery so now is the time to spoil her!

I’ve picked a few of my favourite things that mom might like. Obvs tastes vary but these are what I would give my mom;

This chunky, mid-length necklace has round covered baubles pieced together by a layer of sheer fabric and silver-coloured trims. From Woolworths for R79.95

The Jewellery at the 2013 Met Ball

So the Met Ball has been and gone and most of you have probably seen the dresses, who was the best dressed, who just messed up totally (ahem Kim Kardashian) but not much has been said about the jewellery. The Costume Institute Gala threw the event for the ‘PUNK: Chaos to Couture’ exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. I like that the theme was punk and I expected to see lots of studs, spikes and less sparkly bling on the carpet than usual. But some stars just decided that they wouldn’t dress to the theme (lame) and looked as if they were off to the Oscars.

My best jewellery of the event was seen on the following stars;

Cara-Delevigne-jewellery

Cara Delevigne looked amazing in her spiked jacket but I loved the ear cuffs and layered necklaces. I’m not normally a fan of mixing silver and gold but she makes this work.

Rita-ora-clutch

Rita Ora brought the rings out to play. Which I like. I like a whole lot.

embedded_Nicole_Richie_MET_Ball_2013_Hairstyle

As much as Nicole Richie’s hair looks like a granny’s, the earcuff puts her on my best jewellery list. LOVE it and this makes me want to go out and buy my own.

katy-perry-david-yurman

YES! How much do you love Katy Perry going on Dolce and Gabbanna? (See my post here). Love that she wore David Yurman accessories and rocked it. SHe could have walked straight off the catwalk!

Sienna-hair

And of course Sienna Miller just kicked it out the park. The hair accessory and the ear cuffs and stack. She wins for me. Hands down.

And then there was some jewellery that was alright, not amazing, but alright.

BlakeLivelyMetBall

Blake Lively looked gorgeous and these earrings are lovely but the furthest from punk you could get. So as much as I love them, they would not have been my choice for this event.

Miley Cyrus also had a bad hair day but I had to show you her full length finger ring. I enjoy it although I am not quite sure how practical it will be in real life.

Mary-Kate-Olsen-Met-Ball-2013-070513

Mary Kate Olsen wore two gorgeous necklaces. But they don’t go together as far as I’m concerned. Also, she looks less than happy to be there. I will happily take the cross necklace though.

And then there was just the downright horrible.

designer tabitha simmons

Designer Tabitha Simmons. The idea was there and she was so close. But the earrings are hopelessly too big. Love the crown. But the earrings just take it over to the questionable side.

Diane-Kruger-Joshua-Jackson-Met-Ball-2013-070513

Diane Kruger kept the accessories to a minimum but I appreciate the cuffs. A little clunky but then again it’s fits the theme so I would give her a 6/10.

jennifer morrison

Jennifer Morrison stuck to the trend of wearing rings on every finger however these creepy crawlies give me the heebie jeebies! Looks awesome if you are not arachnophobic.

jessica parker

I don’t know about Jessica Parker’s head piece. Yes it was theme-inspired but I can’t get away from the fact that it would have looked more at home on a Las Vegas showgirl.

JessicaAlbaMetBall

Jessica Alba did something different with her earrings here. The jury is still out on whether it looks great or makes her look like an alien.

Solange-earrings

Look, now I love Solange. But the earrings and the event did not go together. At all.

And there you have it. What jewellery did you love? Think I have missed anyone out? Let me know below!

Marcos and Trump

Each day in London brings its own emotions, discoveries and adventures. This weekend has been a tough one but yesterday was awesome as my sister took me to witness the beauty that is Columbia Road Flower Market. It’s insane how many flowers are available but what I found even more insane was how many people were there! It was packed!

After buying some lilies, the sis and I took a wander down the road looking at all the cute shops along the side of the road. Which is how we come to discover the awesomeness that is Marcos and Trump.

Marcus & Trump (1)

I ripped this photo off the net because there is no way that I would have been able to get a clear shot of it yesterday. Too many blooming people! (har har – get it?)

Girls, if you are in the London area this is a must visit and if you are lucky enough to be visiting the UK soon, be sure to swing by. You wont be disappointed!

The jewellery is beautiful! My sister and I went absolutely crazy, trying everything on. I managed to snap a few pictures of pieces that I want to go back for when I am earning pounds!

IMG_0256[1]

How much do you love these? I don’t even know what they are called so will have to find out and do a separate blog post on it – but these are officially my next obsession!

IMG_0257[1]

This necklace is stunning. I didn’t manage to get a price but I thought I would just show you the gorgeousness.

We then got chatting to the very friendly shop assistant and the photo taking took a bit of a back seat but I took some images off their Facebook page so you can have a look.

197272_10151226058038044_1362241553_n

There were gorgeous button bib necklaces that I find generally look a little DIY, but not these! These I would actually wear..

Love this necklace! One way to make a statement!

Their jewellery is beautifully displayed and even includes deer antlers on which jewellery is hung.

If you want to pay them a visit, their address is 146 Columbia Rd, Shoreditch, London otherwise like their Facebook page here for some eye candy.

Jewel Eye

Part of the whole London experience is definitely exploring the markets that seem to crop up on every street and round every corner. On Saturday we went to explore the brick lane market and although I couldn’t buy anything (I am stretching my rands to last me as long as possible!), I had the most amazing time just looking at everything and everyone.

Guys, the jewellery. As soon as I am earning pounds I am going to have a problem. I can see it now. I saw the most beautiful jewellery brand and thought I have to share it with you! It’s called Jewel Eye and I’m not going to tell you too much, but rather let you see for yourselves!

110

A gorgeous multi stone necklace. Each necklace is made individually as all the stones differ so when you buy on it is really one of a kind piece.

This bracelet is perfect for stacking or for wearing on it’s own.

The rings are my absolute favourite! The gold plated brass just offsets the stone so perfectly.

339

Hows this for a unique statement ring?

406

Turquoise stones in the gold brass setting.

These stones are my favourite and will look amazing on people with blue eyes.

If you want something a little more chunky then this is the ring for you!

This is going to be my first purchase when I start earning pounds. This bracelet is just too dam beautiful!
