Romeo Foxtrot Designs

This gorgeous Cape Town jewellery designer and I met long before either of us even thought jewellery would bring us back in touch. We met on a shoot (we were modelling dressing gowns. Yes. Glam I know) and her infectious laugh and bubbly personality struck me immediately. So you can imagine my delight when she started producing jewellery that I wanted to fill my jewellery box with. Turns out she started making jewellery for herself and posting pics on social media.. and the orders came pouring in!

TOLD you she's gorgeous. She is wearing on of her 'Feather for each Wind that Blows' earring.

I bought one of her bracelets as a treat to myself for my birthday this year (see the post here) but I saw on Twitter the other day she has just launched a line of rings. And you all know me and rings! Her jewellery brand is called Romeo Foxtrot Designs, her nickname by one of her friends who used to call her that in order to simplify Rouxmia.

I thought it was quite catchy and then decided to go with it! I googled it and I found out that in the army it used to mean “run like f**k” so it made it even more fun to use! Thanks Alex Hulley!

This beautiful black diamante ring is R150.

Rouxmia finds her inspiration on Pinterest as well as when she walks into her suppliers. Her jewellery is made up of nickel free Tibetan silver, pleather and suede. What I like is that she makes it as affordable as possible without skimping on the quality.

This gold based ring with a brown stone is only R100.

Romeo Foxtrot currently has six rings but, like me, Rouxmia loves rings so promises that there will be more to come.

The swirl rings are R130 each.

Rouxmia’s favourite piece of jewellery that she makes,

is probably my suede wrap charm bracelets, because it is unique and that came to me in a dream. I make the originals and I absolutely love charms!

Her next line will be a prayer bead line with which she is currently busy as well as a T-Shirt line in the near future. But MY favourite is this little baby right here..

The diamante lioness ring is only R100. And looks AMAZING!

If you love her jewellery as much as I do then have a look on her website for more of her pieces. Rouxmia is on Pinterest here, friend her on Facebook or follow her on Twitter at @Rouxmia. If you want to order, mail her at rouxmia@romeofoxtrot.co.za.

The Oscars 2013 Jewellery

By now you have seen the dresses, seen the speeches and seen Jennifer Lawrence’s fall on her way to accept her award.. (Awkies – but so well handled!). Now is the time to have a look at the jewellery and wow – there were some amazing pieces! Not surprisingly, diamonds seemed to be the rock of choice and cuffs were big this year. Small drop earrings or studs with big necklaces or statement earrings seemed to be the next bet but cuffs definitely ruled this Oscars.

Jennifer Aniston work diamond bracelets and a ring that I would die for!

Reese Witherspoon also whipped out the diamond cuff..

Jennifer Garner was bang on trend.

Amy Adams' diamond cuff was by Moa.

US-OSCARS-ARRIVALS

Renee Zellwegger piled the cuffs on in a gorgeous maroon.

And then the rings. Now you all know I have a soft spot for rings, but these were amazing.

85th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

Jennifer Hudson wore a ring with a circular design, very original. Called a Halo Ring, it was by Sutra. I’ll take two thanks,

21st Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation's Oscar Viewing Party - Arrivals

Ok now normally I am not a matchy matchy type. But the ring just works with these amazing earrings. It is from the Murder She Wrote collection by Stephen Webster (how cool is that collections name?)

85th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

And Zoe Saldana? She wins the ring off hands down! I LOVE the fact that she is wearing more than one ring on one hand and that ring sitting above her knuckle proves that she is a rockstar. A jewellery rockstar. Top marks.

And the snake ring is also a trend at the mo (see my post about it here).

85th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

Now I must be honest, I have no idea who Samantha Barks is but this necklace was too lovely to leave out. Attention grabbing to the max.

85th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

Ditto the above with this chicky boo who arrived with Steven Spielberg. Kate Capshaw stole the show with her diamond collar, I even spotted it when the camera zoomed out during the show. Nice.

85th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

If you look carefully at Amanda Seyfried’s ears, you’ll see that these are actually cute little ear cuffs.

85th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

I know Jane Fonda looks deep in thought, don’t let that fool you – it’s all the botox. She rocked (excuse the pun) 8ct yellow diamond chandelier earrings set in 18ct yellow gold by Chopard.

85th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

Catherine Zeta Jones took my breath away. Not because she barely looks her age, but because of those earrings by Lorraine Schwartz. I want.

85th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

Jessica Chastain always brings an elemant of old Hollywood glamour in my opinion and her earrings did her justice.

85th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

Nicole Kidman wore black and gold earrings from Fred Leighton. Not too sure about these, I must be honest.

And that’s that folks! There were many other baubles on display but I chose my favourite to show you. Think I missed any out? Let me know!

Cute but impractical pieces..

So this morning I saw some gorgeous, but completely impractical rings that are nice to look at – but you wouldn’t be able to wear them.

I know this is probably not the easiest or most practical ring to wear but I thought it was so cute that I need to show you!

Haha how sweet?

Umm.. yes. As if anyone would wear this.

Anywhoo, just a little bit of fun for a Tuesday 🙂

Zanry Jewellery Design and Manufacturing

My high school books are covered in scribbles. Whether it was perfecting my signature, drawings as to how I wanted my matric dance dress to look or just doodles to avoid paying attention in Maths class – my books never resembled the subject in which I was sitting. My good friend Marizanne was the same, except her drawings were a) really good and b) jewellery designs.

I honestly have theeee most beautiful friends I know..

When I stumbled upon her designs, I was blown away. She makes unique pieces to order so getting a Zanry piece is an investment and a worthwhile one! She tries to collaborate antique styles with modern aspects, and get’s it quite right in my opinion.

How beautiful is this?

What do you use as your inspiration?

If I am designing a wedding ring, I love to use the couples’ relationship to get my inspiration e.g. who they are and what they like. Other than that, I am trained to use just about anything as inspiration on demand. Generally, in the fine jewellery category, my clients tend to set the boundaries that I need to work within to create a unique piece.

Yes, I could see this suiting my finger quite nicely thanks..

Yes, I could see this suiting my finger quite nicely thanks..

Do you have days when you are completely uninspired?

Of course! Then I just set it aside and go on with another job until I find some inspiration either later that day or the next. It never lasts long so it won’t create a problem with my work.

Marilyn Monroe was right - diamonds are a girl's best friend.

What are the different materials you use?

The metals that I work with is Silver, Gold(yellow, white and rose), Platinum and Palladium. These are the most common ones. I use pretty much any stones such as diamonds, precious stones such as sapphire, ruby, emerald, semi-precious stones such as quarts, agates, chalcedony etc.. as well as the cheaper options such as cubic zirconia, synthetic gems and even resin.

A ring with three stones.

A ring with three diamonds, very different but gorgeous nevertheless.
